There are numerous ethical Canons and Rules of Practice for Engineers, however the first objective in both categories is to hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public. This Tenet must be of foremost consideration during all phases of design, especially construction. Shop drawing review is the Engineer’s last chance to correct any mistakes or updates to the contract documents prior to the release of the associated materials by the General Contractor. Engineers must consider all relevant information when reviewing shop drawings, the basis of which is to ensure that buildings are safe for the public. This course will showcase examples of how ethical priorities can prevent undue harm to building occupants.
