Environmental hazards can be natural or human-made, both pose a threat to health, safety and welfare. This course will discuss avenues to mitigate natural environmental hazards, and prevent human-made ones to provide safer environments. The efforts to reduce environmental hazards through architecture has created new industry standards, established sustainability practices, improved construction methods, and fostered a positive impact throughout the built environment. Product technology and engineering also play an important role in reducing hazardous environments, building upon the knowledge of centuries of architecture and construction methods to invent new products and construction techniques.
